{"id":2255,"date":"2016-06-20T15:44:24","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T21:44:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/en\/?p=2255"},"modified":"2016-06-23T16:22:59","modified_gmt":"2016-06-23T22:22:59","slug":"legends-of-san-blas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/en\/blog\/legends-of-san-blas\/","title":{"rendered":"Legends of San Blas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the greatest treasures to discover in <strong>San Blas<\/strong>, is the fantastic cultural heritage of this beautiful port, due to the importance this place has had since ancient times, here are some of the legends that are told around the streets:<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>1) The Contadur\u00eda Monk<\/p>\n<p>It is said that the <strong>Fort of San Basilio<\/strong>, located on the <strong>Contadur\u00eda<\/strong> hill is one of the places where more battles occurred throughout the history of San Blas; even the hero priest <strong>Jose Maria Mercado<\/strong> died after falling down of the ravine during a betrayal, so it is common for people to hear voices or see shadows wandering the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>What catches most the attention of those who have worked here at night, is the appearance of an alleged monk who watches over the entire \u200b\u200baccess area, several people have indicated that while walking, they are followed by horses and wagons, which they can hear but cannot be seen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2251\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2251\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2251\" src=\"http:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta.png\" alt=\"Photo via Jason Goldman on Flickr.\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta.png 800w, https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta-220x165.png 220w, https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta-460x345.png 460w, https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/conta-114x86.png 114w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2251\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo via Jason Goldman on Flickr.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) The Origin of Life<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the Huichol legend, Tatei Haramara, now known as <strong>Playa del Rey<\/strong> is the source of all life, this is because the sea is considered &#8220;Our Mother&#8221; and was the place of departure for ancient gods to undertake the sacred path to <strong>Wirikuta<\/strong> in the desert of San Luis Potosi.<\/p>\n<p>The famous white stone in front of that beach is, for <strong>wixarika culture<\/strong>, the physical form of the same goddess <strong>Haramara<\/strong> and the very first solid object in the world. The sea goddess strikes this rock to become steam, and gives rise to clouds and rain. These pirates were mainly from England and Holland, enemies of the Spanish Crown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matanch\u00e9n Bay<\/strong>, with its low and calm waters, was the place where most pirates intercepted the Spanish ships.
