Handicrafts found in the Riviera Nayarit<\/strong> are made by the Huichol and Cora people, who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental<\/strong>. Fine figures representing the gods of sun, rain and others, are common in the region. These ethnic groups are famous for their colorful costumes, embroidered fabrics, plumed hats, as well as their bracelets, rings and necklaces made of glass beads expressing their beliefs.<\/p>\n

In colorful and dramatic images, Huichol people<\/strong> reflect their spiritual reality. It was not until some time after 1950 that many of the artworks began to seep into other Mexican and foreign communities.<\/p>\n

Over time, more members of the Huichol communities, one of the few ethnic groups who have retained their customs and original traditions, began migrating to cities like Tepic<\/strong>, Guadalajara<\/strong>, Mexico City<\/strong>, and locally to Puerto Vallarta<\/strong>. The method of dyeing fabrics, such as art with beads, has become synonymous with the movement to protect the rights of ethnic groups and simultaneously gives commercial and educational opportunities.<\/p>\n
