{"id":2676,"date":"2016-10-10T10:19:51","date_gmt":"2016-10-10T16:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/en\/?p=2676"},"modified":"2019-07-08T11:34:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T16:34:07","slug":"the-honorable-san-blas-battalion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/en\/blog\/the-honorable-san-blas-battalion\/","title":{"rendered":"The Honorable San Blas Battalion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The people of this beautiful port, has always shown great pride of their land, their state and a strong patriotism, which was forever engraved in the memory of Mexicans through the <strong>Honorable San Blas Battalion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This infantry force was formed as<strong> &#8220;Active San Blas Coast Guard Battalion&#8221;<\/strong> and fought during the <strong>War of American Intervention<\/strong>, which took place between 1846 and 1848, when the northern neighbor wanted to seize not only the Mexican province of<strong> Texas<\/strong>, but to advance its invasion as far as they could.<\/p>\n<p>Due to poor military organization of the newly independent Mexican government, the US Army managed to win the Texas territory, in addition to the vast lands of<strong> Alta California<\/strong> and <strong>New Mexico,<\/strong> which were more than half of the former Mexican land.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3385 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/batallon-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Being clearly superior in number of combatants and war technology, the Americans took over the port of <strong>Veracruz<\/strong> in March 1847, having the first confrontation with the Active Battalion of San Blas, whom they defeated at the <strong>Battle of Cerro Gordo<\/strong>, near the city of <strong>Xalapa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They achieved to advance in their way to <strong>Mexico City<\/strong>, where they again faced the San Blas Battalion, now commanded by <strong>Lieutenant Colonel Felipe Santiago Xicot\u00e9ncatl<\/strong> who courageously defended <strong>Chapultepec Castle<\/strong>, virtually the entire battalion gave their lives for this cause.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the US military pressure forced the signing of the <strong>Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo<\/strong> in the Mexican capital, in which, our neighbors seized the disputed territories, but they were expelled from the country averting a full-scale invasion.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3387 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sanblasrivieranayarit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/batallon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, since the nineteenth century, the flag of Honorable San Blas Battalion has been waved as a badge for Chapultepec Castle and the courage of San Blas people has been recorded as an everlasting memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>#AllToBeDiscovered #LikeSanBlas #MeGustaSanBlas<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The people of this beautiful port, has always shown great pride of their land, their state and a strong patriotism, which was forever engraved in the memory of Mexicans through <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":2658,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[63],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.5 -
