The summer heat feels better when you stay well hydrated and, in San Blas, you will find a variety of exotic drinks that you may have never heard of, but certainly will fulfill their purpose of cooling you off.
1) Tejuino (te-HUI-no)
Typical of the western Mexico, this drink is made from fermented corn, it’s usually accompanied by salt, chili powder and lemon ice cream or without adding anything, its bittersweet taste and low alcohol content has plenty of fans.
2) Barley Water
With this cereal a delicious and refreshing drink is prepared, which is very common to find in most ice cream parlors and a favorite for San Blas locals, the taste is very peculiar and once you have assimilated, you will surely love it.
3) Nancy Liqueur
“Nancy” is how they call nance in this part of the Riviera Nayarit, this small but tasty fruit produces a sweet liqueur, as well as a refreshing flavored water. Very typical in the local festivities of San Blas.
4) Pineapple Tepache (Te-PAH-che)
San Blas has a large pineapple production, with which the shell is used to make this drink through fermentation. It is common to find tepache throughout the region, with the special nayarita touch.
5) Tuba
Within the great historical heritage of San Blas, we find the tuba, this delicious drink made out of coconut was originally brought from the Philippines in colonial times by the Manila Galleons, it has been a custom to drink tuba in this beautiful port ever since.
